Tapas closes 31 March 2027: what readers can do
Kakao Entertainment will shut Tapas on 31 March 2027. What is known about Ink and unlocked episodes, and what a reader can do while series find new homes.
Tapas, the webtoon and web novel platform run by Kakao Entertainment, will close on 31 March 2027. The closure was reported in late September 2026. Ink, its in-app currency, stopped being sold on 1 October 2026. This page says what is known today, what is not, and what a reader can sensibly do.
What has been announced
- End of service: 23:59 Pacific Time on 31 March 2027. After that the site and the app are no longer available.
- Ink: not sold since 1 October 2026. Tapas's own policy says Ink purchases are generally final.
- Unlocked episodes: they stop being available when the service ends, and the notice on the Tapas site says they cannot be moved to another Kakao service.
- Series: as far as we could find, there is no title-by-title plan yet. Some creators have said in public that the future of their series is unclear.
This page reports what was public on 24 October 2026. Check the notice on Tapas and each creator's own channels, because plans for single series can change quickly.
What to do now
- Read the official notice on Tapas and write down the end date.
- Read what you have unlocked well before the end date. Access stops for everyone at the same time, and the last weeks are the slowest.
- Follow the series you care about on the creators' own channels, such as a newsletter, X or Discord. When a series moves, that is where it is announced first.
- Look for another official home. Some Tapas series are also published by other webtoon services or as printed books. Use only the official listing.
- Be careful with anything that promises to save or copy Tapas content. Unlocked episodes are licensed to you for reading on Tapas, and copying them breaks the platform's terms and the creator's copyright.
Reading in your own language
Many series on Tapas are in English only. If you read another language, translating the pages you are reading is the part RuneManga helps with.
