Getting started
What is RuneManga?
A service that translates manga and manhwa pages into your language, in the WebApp and with the browser extension. Colorizing black-and-white pages is in development.
Do I need an account?
Yes, for the WebApp: sign in with a free account (Google, Discord or email), then add pages and go. Your account shows your credits and plan, connects the browser extension and redeems gift codes.
How do I translate a chapter?
Add the pages (files, a folder, a ZIP or a pasted image), pick a mode and languages, press the button, then download the result. The guides have a step-by-step walkthrough.
How long does it take?
It depends on the number of pages and how busy the service is. Progress is shown page by page.
Does RuneManga work on my phone?
Yes. The WebApp works in the browser on iPhone, Android and any other device: sign in, add page images or a ZIP and download the result. The browser extension runs on desktop browsers only. HEIC photos are not accepted, so save them as JPG first.
Can I translate a whole chapter at once?
Yes. Add the chapter as files, a folder or a ZIP and translate it in one job: up to 50 pages on Free, 100 on Supporter, 200 on Pro and 500 on Ultimate. Each translated page costs one credit, and progress is shown page by page.
Pricing
Is RuneManga free?
Yes. Every account can claim 20 free credits a day on runemanga.com (1 credit = 1 page), and new accounts get 30 more once that never expire, all translated with RuneLingua, our own AI translator. Need more? Supporter, Pro and Ultimate add credits every month, and credit packs never expire. See the pricing section.
What are the limits?
Up to 50 pages at once on Free, 100 on Supporter, 200 on Pro and 500 on Ultimate, and 20 MB per page. Results are deleted about an hour after the job finishes.
Do credits expire?
Daily credits last 24 hours after you claim them and are used first. The 30 free credits of a new account and the credits in packs you buy never expire. The credits a Supporter, Pro or Ultimate plan adds each month are used after the daily ones, and what is left of them expires when the next period starts.
Privacy and legality
What happens to my pages?
They are processed on our servers and GPU workers and deleted automatically about an hour after the job. They are not used to train models. See the Privacy page for details.
Does my image go to the translation provider?
No. Only the text found on the page is sent to the translation provider.
Is it legal to use?
Use RuneManga only on pages you have the right to process, such as your own work, licensed work or material you may read for personal use. You are responsible for how you use the results. See the Terms.
Languages and quality
Which languages are supported?
Japanese, Korean, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Indonesian, Vietnamese and Thai (or auto-detect) into 89 languages, including English, Turkish, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Russian, Indonesian and Vietnamese. Arabic and Thai are experimental: their lettering is not verified yet.
Why is a translation wrong?
Machine translation makes mistakes, especially with slang, names and sound effects. Set the source language, use a clean high-resolution scan and process the chapter in one job.
Can it handle vertical Japanese text?
Yes, but vertical lettering and text drawn into the art are the hardest cases and are still improving.
Does it work on colored manhwa?
Yes. Choose Translate and the colors stay untouched.
Can I colorize any black-and-white page?
Not yet. Colorize and Translate + colorize are planned, not available yet, so use Translate for your pages for now.
Can I translate Japanese pages that have no translation yet?
Yes. That is what RuneManga is for: add untranslated Japanese, Korean or Chinese pages, pick the language you read and download them translated. Use it only on pages you have the right to process, such as licensed work or material you may read for personal use.
How accurate is it?
Good enough to follow the story on clean, large pages, with mistakes in slang, jokes, names and very short lines. Most bad results come from a small or blurry scan, so start there. Treat the result as a reading aid, not an official translation.
Can I translate English comics into other languages?
Yes. RuneManga translates in any direction it supports: English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Indonesian, Vietnamese and Thai comics can be read as well as manga, and translated into any of the 89 languages, such as Turkish, German or Polish.
Browser extension
Is there a browser extension?
Yes. It works today in Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave and every other Chromium-based browser (Vivaldi, Arc and more): add it to Edge from Edge Add-ons, and to the others from the Chrome Web Store. A Firefox version is in review.
What can the extension see?
Nothing until you turn it on for a site, from a page's RuneManga bar or the extension's popup. It asks for access to that site, then reads the manga pages on screen and the ones that scroll into view, nothing else, and sends those images. It does not send the page address, your browsing history or cookies, except the site's host name (never the full address) in a problem report you choose to send.
Does the extension work in Firefox or Safari?
Not yet. The Firefox version is in review at Firefox Add-ons, and there is no Safari version. In Firefox, Safari or any other browser, use the WebApp: it works everywhere, phones included.
