Torii alternatives for translating manga
Looking for a Torii alternative? Five manga translators side by side: how they work, what they cost and who they suit, with links to each comparison.
If Torii Image Translator does not suit you, because of its credit packs, its model choices or simply how it works, there are good alternatives. This list puts five of them side by side: what each one is, what it costs and who it suits. The facts come from each tool's own pages, checked on 29 October 2026.
What to look for
- Where it runs: a website, a browser extension, an app or your own computer.
- Whether it re-letters the page, with the translation set inside the bubbles, or only shows the text.
- How you pay: a free plan, credits, a subscription or nothing at all.
- What happens to your pages and how long they are kept.
RuneManga
A WebApp and a browser extension made for manga, manhwa and webtoons. Add images, a ZIP, a CBZ or a PDF, translate the whole chapter and download single pages, a ZIP or one PDF; Edit mode lets you correct the result. The Free plan gives 20 credits a day, one per page, and jobs are deleted about an hour after they finish. In our own tests it finished whole batches about 2x faster than Torii.
Ichigo Reader
A reader-first subscription service with an upload page, a Chrome extension that works on manga sites and apps for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android. You choose between several AI models depending on your tier, and it translates into 18 languages. There is a free trial rather than a free plan.
BallonsTranslator
A free, open-source desktop program for Windows, macOS and Linux. It translates a page and then lets you correct every bubble by hand in a full text editor, which suits people translating their own or licensed comics. You install it and run it on your own computer.
manga-image-translator
A free, open-source pipeline you run yourself, with many translators and options, a web interface and an API. Its official online demo, Cotrans, translates one image at a time in the browser.
Google Lens
Free and built into the Google app and Chrome. It is a general image translator for more than 100 languages, quick for one line or one picture, but it does not take whole chapters or set the translation inside speech bubbles.
