Is RuneManga safe? What happens to your pages

Where your pages go, who sees the text, how long files stay and what is never done with them, including what the extension can and cannot see.

Your pages are processed on RuneManga's own servers and GPU workers, only the text found on a page goes to a translation engine, and uploads and results are deleted automatically about an hour after the job finishes. Pages are not used to train models, the website's analytics only count visits and can be turned off (in the EU and EEA, the UK, Switzerland and Türkiye they run only after you accept them), and the WebApp needs only a free sign-in.

This guide is a plain-language summary. The Privacy page is the full text and wins if the two ever differ.

Safe to use, in short

  • The WebApp needs no install, only a free sign-in with Google, Discord or an emailed link.
  • Your pages are deleted automatically, not kept in a library.
  • The translation engine gets text, not images.
  • The extension asks for access one site at a time, and you can take it back.

What we receive

  • The page images you add in the WebApp, or the page images the browser extension translates for you.
  • The options you chose: mode, source language and target language.
  • Ordinary server logs: the time, the request size and errors. They do not contain your images.
  • Your account details, for the free account the WebApp needs: see Your account below. There is never a password.

What happens to a page, step by step

  1. You press the button. The pages are uploaded to our API.
  2. The API checks each page and stores a working copy for the job.
  3. A GPU worker finds the text, reads it, erases it and sets the translation. The working copy of the input is removed once the page is processed.
  4. The text found on the page, and only the text, goes to the translation engine.
  5. The result is kept so that you can see and download it.
  6. About an hour after the job finishes, the job and its results are deleted automatically.

Who sees what

  • Our servers and GPU workers see the images. That is how the job gets done.
  • The translation engine sees text only. On every plan this is RuneLingua, our own AI translator, on the GPU machines that already process your pages. A few languages, and pages translated while RuneLingua is briefly unavailable, go from your browser to another translation service, named in the Privacy Policy, which has its own terms for the text it receives. If you add your own AI key in the extension, the text goes to that provider instead.
  • Nobody else sees the images. They are not shared, not sold and not shown to other users.

What we do not do

  • We do not use your pages to train models.
  • We do not run analytics beyond Google Analytics counting the pages you visit on the website and our own count of where visits come from (a search engine, an AI assistant, another site; no id), never your pages' images or text. In the EU and EEA, the UK, Switzerland and Türkiye Google Analytics, and the cookie that remembers where your first visit came from, run only after you accept them in the cookie notice, and anywhere Cookie settings at the bottom of every page turns them off. The website remembers your light or dark choice and your cookie answer in your browser's local storage and, when you sign in, sets one cookie that keeps you signed in. Edits you make to a page in the WebApp's Edit mode are saved in your browser only, never uploaded, and are deleted with that page in your translation history.
  • We do not keep your pages after the job's time is up.

The browser extension

It reads nothing on a site until you switch it on there. Then it sends the manga pages on screen and the ones that scroll into view to the RuneManga API, under a neutral file name, and nothing else: not the address of the page, not your history and not your cookies. Its settings stay in your browser profile. The permissions are explained one by one in a separate guide.

What you should do

  • Download your results before the hour is up, because deleted jobs cannot be restored.
  • Only upload pages you have the right to process, such as your own work, licensed work or material you may read for personal use.
  • If a page contains something private, do not send it through any online translator, ours included. Text sent to an engine is out of your hands.

Your account

The WebApp needs a free account. For it we store your email, your name and profile picture link (from Google, if you sign in with Google), your plan, your credits and their history, your sign-in sessions (with the IP address and browser they came from), the gift codes you redeemed and a log of sign-ins and account changes. There is no password, and card details stay with Whop, which handles payments. You can delete the account at any time on the Account page, under Delete account. The Privacy page lists everything in full.

Questions people ask

Can anyone else open my results?

Each job gets a long random identifier, results are reachable only through it, and they are not listed or shown to other users.

Is there a delete button?

For pages, no: the automatic deletion about an hour after the job is the mechanism. For your account, yes: open Account and use Delete account.

Is the extension safe to install?

You add it from the Chrome Web Store or Edge Add-ons, where each version is reviewed before it is published. Its permissions are limited and explained in a separate guide.

Is it legal?

That depends on the pages you send. The rights to them are yours to check, and the Terms explain the rules.
