Translate comics into any language with RuneManga

Translate English, Spanish, French or Portuguese comics into 89 languages with RuneManga: what works, what does not yet and the settings to use.

RuneManga translates comics in any direction, not only manga into English. It reads English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Indonesian, Vietnamese and Thai as well as Japanese, Korean and Chinese, and translates into 89 languages. An American comic can become Turkish, a French album Spanish, and your own webcomic can get a first draft in another language.

What works well

  • Dialogue in speech bubbles, which is most of the text in many comics.
  • Horizontal lettering on clean, large pages, set back in the same bubble.
  • Colored pages: Translate keeps the colors exactly as they are.
  • A whole issue in one job, from 50 pages on Free up to 500 on Ultimate.

What does not work yet

  • Caption and narration boxes are not translated yet, and Western comics use them a lot.
  • Sound effects drawn into the art stay as drawn.
  • German, Italian and Dutch comics cannot be read yet: those languages are targets, not sources.
  • Stylized title lettering and very small print can be missed or misread.

Where you read

  • Comics you own as image files, a folder, a ZIP or a CBZ: use the WebApp.
  • A PDF: drop it on the WebApp as it is. Its pages are translated, and you can download the result as one PDF.
  • Webcomics on sites that show ordinary images: the browser extension translates them in place on a computer.
  • Your own work: translate it as a draft, then correct it before you publish anything.
  • Mode: Translate.
  • Translate into: any of the 89 languages. Languages that need fewer letters than the original fit small bubbles best.
  • Input: the largest pages you have, one page per image.

Questions

Can RuneManga translate English comics into other languages?

Yes. English is one of the languages it reads, and it translates into 89 languages, such as Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish, German and Indonesian.

Yes, as a first draft. Machine translation can contain mistakes, so have a fluent reader check it before you publish.
