Translate manhwa and webtoons with RuneManga
Korean manhwa and webtoon strips with RuneManga: colors kept, long strips handled, the readers that work and the settings to pick.
Manhwa and webtoons are usually in full color and published as long vertical strips, with lettering that often sits straight on the art. RuneManga's Translate mode changes the lettering and leaves the colors exactly as they are. Korean is supported and its recognition is still improving, so check each episode.
What works well
- Dialogue in speech bubbles on full-size images.
- Colored pages: Translate never recolors them.
- Tall strips, sent as separate images in order, up to 20 MB each.
What does not work yet
- Text placed directly on the art without a bubble, which is common in webtoons, is not translated yet.
- Stylized and handwritten fonts used for emphasis and sound effects are usually left as drawn.
- Korean recognition is less mature than Japanese, so expect more missed or misread lines.
Where you read
- Episodes saved as images or a ZIP: use the WebApp and download the result as PNGs or one ZIP.
- Vertical-scroll readers that load images as you scroll: the browser extension translates the images near where you are, as they come in.
- Readers that draw on a protected canvas cannot be read by the extension; the browser blocks it.
Recommended settings
- Mode: Translate. Colorize is for black-and-white pages and is in development.
- Original language: Korean, rather than Auto-detect, especially on images with only a few lines.
- Input: images at their original size, not screenshots of a reader. Split an extremely tall strip at a gap between panels if the upload is refused.
- One episode per job, so the same settings apply to every image.
Questions
Will the colors change?
No. Only the lettering is replaced: it is erased and the background under it filled in.
Why did a line stay in Korean?
Most often it sits on the art without a bubble, or it is a sound effect. Neither is translated yet.
