Best image quality for manga translation
Resolution, cropping, compression and language settings that decide how clean a translated page comes out.
Most bad translations are not translation problems. They start earlier: the text on the page was hard to read, so the wrong words were translated. The same goes for the background filled in under the lettering. A clean input gives a clean page.
Start from the largest scan you have
Small or blurry images lose the thin strokes that tell similar characters apart, which is where text recognition goes wrong first. If you can choose, take the original-size scan instead of a thumbnail or a screenshot of a reader. Do not upscale a small image yourself before uploading: it does not add the detail that is missing.
Avoid heavy compression
Repeated JPG saving leaves blocky noise around lettering, and that noise can be read as extra marks. A PNG or a lightly compressed JPG or WebP keeps the edges sharp. Pages are limited to 20 MB each, which is plenty for a normal scan.
Keep the page whole
- Do not crop speech bubbles or captions at the page edge.
- Do not stitch several pages into one image; send them as separate pages.
- For a very long webtoon strip, split it at a natural gap between panels if the upload is refused.
Tell it the source language
Auto-detect is convenient, but a short page with little text can be guessed wrong. When you know the language, pick it in the Original language menu.
Process a chapter in one job
Pages sent together are handled with the same settings and in page order, so names and style stay consistent from page to page. If one result looks off, re-run just that page instead of the whole chapter.
What no setting can fix
- Vertical lettering and sound effects drawn into the art are the hardest cases and are still improving.
- Slang, puns and character names can be wrong in any machine translation. Treat the result as a reading aid.
